New Year's Resolutions -Where do they fit in the picture?

Personally, I am not a fan of new year's resolutions UNLESS they are the steps you will take to achieve the goals you have set out for the year. Too many people make a lengthy list of resolutions for the upcoming year and soon forget about them.

Start with identifying what you really want this year to be about. Identify your goals and write them out using the SMART ACTION process (contact me and I will send you a blank form for a guide). Then identify the one small change... your new years resolution that can make a big difference in the long run.

For example, I recently read that eliminating 2 tsp. of sugar in your coffee each day could result in over a three pound weight loss over the course of the year. This is a small change that could add up to a few pounds without eventing thinking. Over the course of 10 years this could be equal to a 30 lb. weight loss. This number made me gasp!!! Especially since I tend to be more of a double-double type of gal to start with - YIKES!!! Imagine what might happen if I switched to green tea (no sugar and no cream!). Makes me think hmmmm.... yep this sounds like it is worth a try, especially since my health goal is reach and maintain my ideal weight in the next year!

Get specific and think of one small thing that you could manage to do differently. Give yourself at least 21 days to make this change, as that is how long it takes for something to be habit forming. Then look for the next step that moves you closer to your goals - whether it is in the area of health, finances, personal development, relationships, career, or spiritual growth. The small changes count when you are clear of the long term goal.

Set yourself up for success in 2010!
