Goal Setting for Success in 2010!
2010 is around the corner!!! Are you ready for another phenomenal year? Do you have your wish list in hand? Have you specified which “wishes” are goals and do you have them clearly written down as such?
Goals are 50% more likely to be achieved if written down and 200% more like to be achieved if reviewed regularly! Now talk about increasing your odds for success!!!
Start with brainstorming – write down anything and everything that comes to mind that you would like to “have, do or be” in the next year. All ideas are acceptable at this stage of the game!
Next identify why these things are important to you and how they link to your core values and life purpose. Only those things that are congruent with both should make your goals list this year.
Then set a time frame of when you will achieve these wishes. I mark beside each wish a shorthand code of 6, 1, 3, or 5+ (achieving these “wishes” within the next six months, one year, three years, or five years plus.)
Finally, rewrite your “wishes” as goals using the SMART ACTION acronym described more fully in Stop Holding Back.
SMART S = Specific M = Measurable A = ACTION R = Realistic T = Timely
ACTION A = Action – What are the focused steps I need to take to make things happen? C = Clear – Can I clearly measure my progress? T = Timeline – What is my timeline I = Incentive – What are the benefits of my doing this? Why should I do this? O = Obstacle Conquering – What setbacks might I foresee occurring and what are some of the possible solutions? N = Network – What support do I need along the way to achieving this goal? Where should I be seeking assistance?
Once you have your goals written down in proper goal setting format, make yourself several copies so you can carry the with you at all times, and place them in strategic places for easy review. Regular review (daily, weekly, monthly….) whatever that means for you only INCREASES your odds of success!!!
People always make comment that goal setting seems to be a lot of work! I would agree… proper goal setting takes time, thought, and reflection, but the results are worth it!!! Your dreams are worth it! YOU are worth it!
